Supervisor Jeannie LaCroix Announces Major Tax Relief and Resident-Focused Wins for Proposed FY2027 Budget
Woodbridge, VA – Woodbridge District Supervisor Jeannie LaCroix today announced the results of intense negotiations and bipartisan collaboration during yesterday’s marathon budget markup session at the Prince William Board of County Supervisors.
Following weeks of work across party lines, Supervisor LaCroix cast the deciding vote on a proposed FY2027 budget that puts residents first by delivering meaningful tax relief and long-needed community investments.
“Negotiation is never easy, but we worked through our differences and came together in a great way,” said Supervisor LaCroix. “What we accomplished together on behalf of the residents makes me proud to be a member of this board.”
A top priority for Supervisor LaCroix, the proposed meals tax rate was slashed from 3% to 2% during the markup. This reduction would provide immediate relief to families dining out and local restaurants operating on razor-thin margins.
In addition to the meals tax, the proposed real estate tax was lowered from the advertised $0.906 to $0.85 per $100 of assessed value – a 6.18% cut that would deliver an average savings of $331 compared to the original proposed rate and average tax bills $145 lower than in 2026.
The proposed budget leaves the county with an $11 million surplus.
“Through personal conversations and a shared commitment to our residents, we were able to reach agreement on a budget that lowers the tax burden on families while making smart investments in our future,” LaCroix added.
Additional changes to the budget include:
- Data centers are required to pay their fair share through an increase in the C&P tax to $4.50 per $100 of assessed value;
- A $5 million investment to remove blight and support revitalization benefiting Woodbridge and other communities;
- A $1 million investment in the County’s Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) program to preserve open space and agricultural land;
- Three new full-time staff positions at the Sheriff’s Office; and
- A new full-time staff position at the animal shelter.
The Board’s final vote to pass the proposed FY2027 budget will take place on Tuesday, April 21, 2026. Supervisor LaCroix encourages residents to contact the Board of County Supervisors at bocs@pwcgov.org to express their support for the proposed budget.
Supervisor LaCroix concluded, “I look forward to working with my colleagues next Tuesday to pass a FY2027 budget that delivers historic relief for the residents of Prince William County.”
